Join Colorado’s Cleantech Revolution
Transforming how we generate, consume, store, and distribute energy is the key to addressing the global energy challenge. We invite you to join us in this critical effort.
The time for action is now.
As a national epicenter for cleantech, Colorado is ready to innovate the future energy system, and train and educate the workforce to deliver it, all while creating new business opportunities and expanding our economy.
YOU can be part of the solution.
Nearly 50 years ago, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, was created in response to rising gas prices due to the oil embargo. Federal leaders knew then that meeting our future energy needs would require new solutions, new thinking, and a global commitment. The Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) was started in 1977 to innovate solar energy solutions to address those challenges.
In 1991, due to its rapidly expanding renewable research and technology programs, SERI became NREL. And for the past five decades a Colorado clean energy ecosystem has blossomed in the region, in part catalyzed by NREL.
Today we are at a moment just as urgent as the impetus for NREL’s creation in 1977. Global challenges including pollution, urbanization, and biodiversity loss require a unified response to the energy transition. At the same time, new technologies will require a new workforce and stimulate myriad new business opportunities. These related drivers are the catalyst for Colorado’s Global Energy Park, or Glo Park.
The State of Colorado and the Colorado Cleantech Ecosystem are leading the vision to find solutions for our current and future energy needs. This combined government, research, and business community recognizes that progress requires partnership among the world’s most innovative thinkers, embarking on yet-to-be-imagined solutions and discoveries.

At Colorado’s Glo Park
Global leaders will come together at a state-of-the-art collaborative research campus to tackle the planet’s most complex and urgent energy issues squarely in the heart of Colorado’s internationally recognized energy research and innovation ecosystem. Industry, government, and academia will gather to lead the global transition toward clean, renewable, sustainable, and equitable energy solutions, while creating advanced workforce opportunities and engaging students of all ages. Harnessing the urgent opportunity and the power of collaboration, Glo Park will foster inclusivity and innovation in a living laboratory campus, catalyzing new research and technology to fuel the future, and expanding local, state, and national economic growth.
Our charge and our vision are clear. Widespread participation and collaboration is imperative. Established in 2021, the NREL Foundation serves as a bridge between NREL and donors. The foundation allows new partners and sources of capital to find ways to participate in accelerating the clean energy mission.
The NREL Foundation has joined with the State of Colorado to help make Glo Park a reality through an ambitious capital campaign on par with the urgency of the climate challenge.
The NREL Foundation is a non-profit entity that is independent of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Alliance for Sustainable Energy, and the U.S. Department of Energy.
